When Justin's long-lost sister, Ivy, shows up at the funeral for Elyssa's brother, Jack, it seems like the family reunion Justin has long hoped for is finally here. But Ivy isn't interested in playing Barbie or hanging out at the mall with her big brother. She's on a mission against evil, and Justin is at the top of her big-bad-meanies list.
Before Ivy can carry through on her threats, Justin finds out that she's been kidnapped. The kidnapper is none other than Maximus, a self-styled rebel leader of his own army of vampires who once kidnapped Justin's father. He also happens to be a world-class douchebag. Despite Ivy's homicidal inclinations toward Justin, loyalty to family leads him to go after Ivy and settle things with Maximus once and for all.
Unfortunately, nothing goes according to plan, and Maximus's minions capture Justin. But even as Justin fights to free himself, he discovers Maximus plans to use Justin's incubus blood to fuel his quest for world domination. And the rogue vampire isn't even at the top of the food chain. Far more powerful forces stand behind him Daelissa the insane angel, Maximus's vampire sire, and, even worse, Justin's grandparents and, quite possibly his own mother.

This is book number 4 in this series and in this one we get an end to the whole Maximus plot since the 3rd one centers on the big reveal I felt this was fitting. What is till good about these books is still good unfortunately what was bad these books is still bad.Good
1: Justin again is the most fun in the book and his point of view is fun and entertaining. Although I think in this book he comes off a wimpy several times he gets beat up and I thought it was a dilberate attempt on the author part to make him less powerful.
2: Cast of character is great with only one new addtion but you get to see some familair faces. I love to see Nyte and Ash back as they were there in the beginning when Justing had nothing. It is nice to see that the friendship endures.
3: We get some training for Justin in magic really not even close to enough considering it has been a topic since book one and we are only getting to it now. Also the frentic pass of these books with only a week inbetween does not allow for any real upgread in ability. I feel that the author adding this has made him lower Justins power in other areas tho to compensate.
4: Finally we know who the big guy following Justin around is. I can honestly say I was shocked not only that who is was but that he was forgiven so quickly.
Bad
1: I have said it in all my other reviews the family thing is just atrocious. ***Spoiler*** Now it is all forgiven yeah I had you Lobotomized against your will but it was all a misunderstanding and I love you. Well then lets be a happy family again. Just wow this is just wow. So much wrong with this including the fact that he got a member of his family killed with very little if any remorse shown this is just bad. So the whole mom showing up thanks for saving me once wow real sorry you could not of been there for the whole dozens of times I was almost killed the two times I was tortured the numerous times I was humiliated oh and by the way thanks for abandoning me and violating my mind. But hey she shows up once when Justin needs her and that makes is all better. Again "Daddy hits me because he loves me" I actually felt that Justin was growing in this one at the beginning and starting to actually hold his mother and father accountable for their actions instead we get the well they are family so it does not matter that they lied, violated, abandoned me my whole life. None of the parents ever are held to account for their actions and kids act like abuse victims just forgiving them over and over again for their abusive behaviors.
2: Underborn plays a big role in this one and again he acts like a plot device. If the character get in over their heads he is there to save to them or provide them with critical information. I feel that the author is better than this.
3: The magic training could use a step up as well as some self defense training either or but in this book Justin gets beat pretty bad and a plot device was added to insure if the author wants to make him weak at any point he can. I am not a fan of transparent plot devices like this and the vampling thing is only there to weaken Justin overall.
4: I would slow down the frenetic pace have some months go by so that you can actually get some training under the teams belt. This pace is just not a good part of the books anymore all these books have taken place over a manner of just a few months if that. Just to much to quick.
Overall
If you liked the others you will like this one but I still feel that certain plot elements prevent the books from being really great. In addition the author has shown a real consistency of writing that is both good as somethings he does very well but also bad in the sense that we keep getting the same plot devices over and over "6 kidnapping or captures" as well as the whole family thing that is just so very very bad. I would recommend this to a friend.

I'm not sure what happened but this went from a decent series to a "oh poor is me" pity party. How the main character can turn into a whiny sniveling wimp from an evolving being is beyond me. Too bad. It was good.
Truly love this series. The characters are all so different and wonderful. The scenes are action packed and so full of energy. I do feel like there are a million questions still to be answered, but i'm sure that's what the author wants. I would love to be part of this ragtag team of awesome misfits. Will continue to love and read the series.
I loved this series. John Corwin has built an interesting world that kept me buying the next book. I just finished the tenth (Corwin calls it the final, but I don't believe him) novel and just had to get on and post the review so it could get the extra 5 stars it deserves.
My daughter got me started on this series of books and I have surpassed her in reading them. Each book brings in New characters. and builds upon the old ones. If you do not want to be c a night up in a good series of books then I strongly recommend you do not start with this series, if on the other hand you are looking for a compelling story line then this series is for you.
This book does not really have all that much happens in it. O THINGS happen, but none of it means anything until the end, or at least it feels that way. The ending itself if fairly shocking. To me book four was FULL of new little twists and possible scenarios and not much in the way of answers. For every answer we get there is at least one more question, the ending brings out ALOT of questions.
Yes I enjoyed the read, yes im going to get the next one.
Great book series that I highly recommend people read. I read lots of books and am always glad to run across a new series. I am especially pleased to find a book that is not just another vampire/werewolf who creepily stares at his soul mate as she sleeps.
Ok there is some of the usual stuff in these books. Boy gets with his crush, boy gets super powers and popularity, boy saves the day with his awesomeness. However, each of these elements comes with a unique twist that makes it interesting in a very surprising way. For example, he gets super speed but not super branch dodging/ankle twisting skills.
The author used all the stories that we love but changes them in ways that make this series a unique and interesting read. This book in particular ties up lots of loose story lines and sets the path of the story that has been hinted at in the previous installments.
Good Read, if you have read all the books of this series in order.
To the author I'm glad you decided to enlighten our lives with an awesome story. Thanks for continuing your pursuit as an author and to continue this series. This book keeps my eyes glued to the screen and leaves little time for anything else. You capture the emotions of the characters and us readers. Your humor is spot on and I just love imagining this world you describe.
For new readers start from the first book and enjoy the roller coaster ride of emotions, shocking and unexpected twists. Things that will make you say OH SNAP! or OMG No! And Holy Shhhirt. Warning u may want to yell at the screen or strangle a pillow. You may have to see a doctor after falling off your bed spraining an ankle in the process of rolling on the floor laughing. You may need a bucket close by and a few tissues. And your heart will be aching from the hurtles it will jump. Do not drive like they do in the book for you will certainly crash. If this thrill ride of a series doesn't get ur blood pumpin then u must be a vampire.
I need I bigger vocab to describe how wonderful this series is and how much I enjoy every word written I hope to see many more books and I will support this author with everyone if he keeps writing this way.
I think I saw 2-3 grammar errors in the whole book. Absolutely awesome job to your editor.
